Acne and exercise are related to one another believe it or not. Exercising does not cause acne and is actually good for your skin by lowering your stress and creating a healthy body, but there are factors of exercising that could contribute to creating excess bacteria and clogging your pores.
When exercising, avoid wearing any foundation or other makeup. As you sweat, your pores open up and this allows makeup inside. Even it you are wearing non-comedogenic makeup, it could still contribute to clogging your pores.
Always wear sunscreen when exposed to the sun, but particularly when exercising outside.
Acne And Exercising
Wear clothes that are loose fitting that allow your body to breath. Wearing tight clothes while exercising only traps bacteria as you sweat and will contribute to clogging your pores. Lycra and nylon are the worst materials to wear during exercise because they don’t allow heat to escape. Lightweight cottons and cotton blends are recommended.
Keep in mind the equipment you are using. Are you washing off equipment after someone else uses it? If not they could have left bacteria behind and then you touched it, so now you have that bacteria also. If wearing some type of headgear, buy the ones that have cotton lining, as it is the most breathable and you can also wash cotton. Use equipment and wear clothes that are clean and dry.
When you’re done exercising, get out of your clothes and into the shower! Wearing your sweating clothes is a breeding ground for bacteria. If you can, change immediately after your workout. Don’t wipe off your face, gently blot it or wash it with warm water. If you don’t have immediate access to a shower, use medicated pads to wipe of your face.
