Skin is very complicated. It is our protection, our armor from the rest of the world. The outermost layer of your skin is called the epidermis. Amazingly enough, the epidermis is constantly shedding dead skin cells and replacing them with new ones.
The next layer of skin is called the dermis which consists of the bulk of your skin. Your skin is an organ and the dermis creates the necessary elements of it including the elastin, reticulin and collagen. It also consists of nerves, blood vessels, oil glands and sweat glands. The nerves in your skin tell your brain if you are hot or cold and if you need to do anything to protect yourself. Sweating helps you to keep you body cool. Oil glands can become blocked, but they produce sebum so your skin can stay soft and waterproof. Blood vessels move your blood and oxygen around your body giving it the correct nutrients.
Finally, there is fat, and believe me, you’re body requires it! Fat varies for different people as weight varies. Fat, called subcutaneous fat, helps to keep you warm and it also help to protect your internal tissues. Another interesting thing is that your hair grows from your fat and works it way up through the rest of your skin and delivers sebum as it works its way out.
Most people experience at least one pimple in their life, and some people deal with acne their entire life. No matter what you do to take care of your skin externally, beautiful skin happens through a process, starting from within.
