The psychological harm acne or Zits causes it’s many sufferers should not be underestimated; but there are now many treatments available which can help the condition so it is more bearable. Medical investigation and research is ongoing and making interesting discoveries; the result of this effort is new, more effective, treatments are becoming available. The type of acne skin care product you might use would come under three general categories:
- Preventive
- Over-the-Counter: Treatments for conditions that do not require prescription
- Prescription only: doctors or dermatologists prescribe special treatments
Probably the largest part of the skin care market is products that are designed to clean and protect the skin from acne occurring, like skin cleansers. In the real sense, these products are just those that should be part of your daily routine.
There are acne skin care products that are more specialized in there approach and are formulated to reduce and limit the amount of oil in the pores of our skin. These types of products are reducing the chance of oil staying in the pores and aiding the growth of harmful bacteria which assists the formation of the skin condition.
One particular skin care treatment is an exfoliation skin peel which cleans the skin and helps control the spread of the condition. The peels clean the skin by removing all surface pollution and dead skin cells which can block the pores.
Many different, specially formulated acne skin care products designed to reduce the problems have now been made available without prescription. Products that contain the chemical benzoyl peroxide and the naturally occurring salicylic acid are used in vanishing creams. They work by removing the excess oil from the skin and halt the growth of acne.
You should start with a product that has lower concentration of benzoyl peroxide (e.g. 5%) and see how your skin responds. Alpha-hydroxy-acid based moisturizers are also popular as a skin care regime. It is not always possible to find an acne skin care product that works first time. You may need to try a few but if none of them seem to be working then you would be advised to contact your skin specialist.
Psychological Harm Of Acne
On-prescription treatments are prescribed by a dermatologist and can include ointments that can be applied on the affected area or oral antibiotics or just any topical ointment. In more serious cases your skin care specialist may decide that a small surgical procedure can be used to remove the oil and infection from your pores. You are warned never to attempt this yourself as it could lead to serious skin problems.
An alternative that has been shown to work well is hormone therapy. Studies have shown that hormones can cause acne and skin care treatments that are hormone based have proved to be effective in many cases. With all the treatments available, tackling acne is not that difficult as there are many new products available to help.
