Acne is a very frustrating issue for teenagers and adults alike. When you have acne, you think it will just go away at some point or you can treat it yourself. After months or even years you finally realize your acne is not going away and you may need to seek professional help. So how do you know when you are at this point?
If you have been buying over the counter products and they have failed to get rid of your acne or even control it in an acceptable way, you may need to seek professional help. Acne is a serious problem, and if it’s not treated, could lead to scarring. The problem with over the counter products is that most of them are topical creams, and acne is an internal issue. Over the counter oral medications may work for some, but there is no guarantee. Products purchased at high end department store may also work, but acne is a complicated issue. There is not one right treatment for everyone and a salesperson at a department store is just that, a salesperson, not a dermatologist. They just want to make a sale and cannot diagnose the type of acne you have.
